Normally, when you change something in a record and then navigate to another record or hit one of the "<" or ">" or "END" button the changes are written in the database.
There is no "special" procedure in order to edit a record.

Hi Bob and Colin, Once upon a time I bought something like this (same chipset) from g0oyq-steve's ebay shop. My desktop has a "real" COM port so I am using a well shielded DB9-DB9 cable and I have this as a backup. I am not using the USB to serial everyday but it worked fine with my TS-480...

I think that someone must know what type of files you have in your backup device to be able to help you with the steps you should follow.

winlog LOG files? ADIF files? something else? which type?

As far as I know, the lookup function (F11) searches whatever is at the Log Page Callsign field and not the search field.
