Winlog32 and LOTW for SAT contacts

Post by F4GVO » Thu May 10, 2018 2:30 pm

Hi folks, Hi Colin,

I would like to uploads my SATELLITES contacts on LOTW.
I read on the net that LOTW is expecting some specific fields with specifics values from ADIF files.
Can you please tell me how is the best way to prepare QSO satellites in Winlog32 to, then, export them in LOTW ?

Thank you in advance,

Hi Thierry

I had to check up on this as it has been a long time.

Winlog32 will export a SAT QSO if 'SAT' is set as the 'Prop' Mode.
AND the 'name' of the Satellite is entered in the 'User' field, the sat name MUST be the only text in this field.

The export should be OK for LoTW to verify SAT QSOs as only these two ADIF fields are required in addition to the usual QSO data.

The SAT name MUST be that as per ADIF spec to be recognised by TQSL/LoTW, e.g. 'AO-10', I am not familiar with modern satellites, or even those that have been launched over the years, my last QSO's via SAT were back in early 1980's (I think it was one of the Russian 10m/2m transponders, hi hi.

RR Colin.

I added value as you said and exporting QSO SAT contacts , this line like this one is added in the ADIF File:

<SAT_NAME:5>AO-27

I also saw this line:
<PROP_MODE:3>SAT <GRIDSQUARE:6>JN99JG <COMMENT:5>AO-27

so, there are the two necessary values as I read here: https://lotw.arrl.org/lotw-help/satellite-qsos/
for LOTW to consider them as SAT QSOs.

I must work like this, thank you !

Well, it seems that there something wrong.
So, so far, I had exported in ADIF file three contacts made by SAT without any problem. As I wrote before, the two necessary fields need by LOTW are well written in the file, so it shall not be a problem.

Right now, I rack my brain with my last SAT contacts. I checked and re-checked, deleted the contacted from Winlog, wrote it again, and even putting sat name in user field (AO-91) and SAT in Prop. field, when exporting this contact in adif file, <SAT_NAME:5> field doesn't appear :(

Here is the ADIF content of my file:

Code: Select all

EXPORTED LOG ADIF FORMAT on 16/05/2018
ID_WINLOG32
<PROGRAMID:8>WINLOG32
<PROGRAMVERSION:3>7.3
WINLOG32 (G0CUZ) c 1999 - 2018 version 7.3 revision 18
File: C:\MesProgrammes\Winlog32\Logs\SAT.LOG
LogName: LOG

<DXCC:3:N>230	<EOR>
It seems that all infos as before are well written but it miss the <SAT_NAME:5> field ....

Following, is part of the code of my first ADIF export with other sat. In this case, this is NO problem. The two necessary field are well written:

Code: Select all

<CALL:5>DK5CF	<QSO_DATE:8>20120730	<TIME_ON:4>0754	<TIME_OFF:4>0754
<FREQ:7:N>432.000	<BAND:4>70cm	<MODE:3>SSB	<APP_WL32_MODE:3>SSB	<TX_PWR:2>20
<RST_SENT:2>57	<RST_RCVD:2>57	<APP_WL32_REMARKS:41>JO43BD op.Christoph VO-52 first contact !
<PROP_MODE:3>SAT	<GRIDSQUARE:6>JO43BD	<COMMENT:5>VO-52
<QSL_RCVD:1>Y	<QSL_RCVD_VIA:1>B	<APP_WL32_QSLIN:10>B 18/02/14	<QSL_SENT:1>Y	<APP_WL32_QSLOUT:10>B 19/02/14	<QSL_VIA:0>	<IOTA:0>	<CNTY:0>	<STATE:0>
<SAT_NAME:5>VO-52
<DXCC:3:N>230	<EOR>
I, of course, add the field manually but it will not explain why it is not working for this QSO.

Any idea ?

Hello again Thierry

I've looked into this.

Some of the more recent satellites have not been included in Winlog32's enumerated list where a function verifies the sat_name field before export.

I have now updated the list using latest info from AMSAT, this will be in next version release which I will try and get sorted in a week or so, sorry for the inconvenience and time spent.

Just checked today and I saw that .19 version is now online.
Just installed it without any problem and export my AO-91 sat QSO in ADIF.
Checked it,opening it on my favorite text editor and now, the entry <SAT_NAME:5> is well inserted !

Thank you very much Colin for the update.
